At the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event on August 10, Samsung took the wraps off the Galaxy Z Fold 4 and the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Apparently, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 won't be quite as appealing to those who already have the Galaxy Z Fold 3. However, there are a few notable hardware changes and software improvements that are interesting.

The hardware changes in the camera department have some notable improvements. According to a Redditor, it would be better to say that Samsung has housed a mixed bag of camera sensors found in its previous Galaxy smartphones. The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4 has a triple-camera setup on the back, an under-display camera, and a front-facing camera on the external display.

Galaxy Z Fold 4's camera sensors aren't entirely new but perform well

    • 50MP Primary: ISOCELL GN3
    • 12MP Ultrawide: Sony IMX258
    • 10MP Telephoto: ISOCELL 3K1
    • 10MP Front-Facing: Sony IMX374
    • 4MP UDC Front-Facing: Sony IMX471

The S5KGN3 (ISOCELL GN3) is the primary sensor on the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It is the same camera sensor found on the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22+. The Galaxy Z Fold 4 also borrows the same S5K3K1 (ISOCELL 3K1) telephoto sensor found in the Galaxy S22 and the Galaxy S22+. Then there is the Sony IMX258 ultrawide sensor found in the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The front-facing camera seems to be a “traditional” camera sensor, as the Sony IMX374 selfie camera sensor is also found in the original Galaxy Fold, the Galaxy Z Fold 2, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3. The Sony IMX471 under-display camera sensor is the one that is also found in the Galaxy Z Fold 3.

The camera sensors included on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 are some of the most tried-and-tested camera sensors. In fact, based on the multiple camera testing reviews over the internet, the Galaxy Z Fold 4 captures much better photos than its predecessor even though it costs the same ($1,799).
