Samsung has been using ultra-high-resolution cameras in its phones since the launch of the Galaxy S20 Ultra. The company used 108MP cameras in its flagship phones for three generations: Galaxy S20 Ultra, Galaxy S21 Ultra, and Galaxy S22 Ultra. Now, the company seems to be ready to graduate with an even higher resolution sensor.

According to leakster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy S23 Ultra will feature a 200MP primary camera. The South Korean firm is reportedly using an unreleased 200MP sensor, the ISOCELL HP2. If you can remember, Samsung's first 200MP camera sensor, the ISOCELL HP1, was launched last year. A few weeks ago, the company revealed its second 200MP sensor, the ISOCELL HP3.

Apparently, the ISOCELL HP2 will be a better performer than both the ISOCELL HP1 and the ISOCELL HP3. Yes, sometimes even we don't understand Samsung's product naming convention. For example, the ISOCELL GN2 is a better sensor than the ISOCELL GN1, but the ISOCELL GN5 is not as good as either of those.

Coming back to the ISOCELL HP2, its size isn't known yet. However, if it really performs better, then it could either be bigger than the ISOCELL HP1 (1/1.22-inch sensor) or feature better deep trench isolation technology. Experts are questioning Samsung's strategy of using such high-resolution cameras as using sensors with lower resolution and bigger pixels would be theoretically better.
