The Material You design language debuted with Android 12 last year, and it looks like Google will bring it to Chrome OS this year. Samsung adopted this feature for One UI 4.0 and named it Color Palette. Material You features flatter and more streamlined UI elements. It also adapts to color schemes from the chosen wallpaper for a more customized look for apps and widgets.
The folks over at 9To5Google discovered a new Chrome flag labeled #cros-next-mvp in the Chrome Canary build. When enabled, it will bring Material You theming to the operating system and third-party apps and widgets that use the UI feature. However, given this feature is still under development, we might not see its final release until sometime later this year.
Google is bringing more standalone apps to Chrome OS, turning it into a true competitor to Windows and macOS. With Material You and upcoming tablet-optimized apps, Chrome OS could get the major visual upgrade that has been pending for a long time.
