Galaxy Z Fold 4 wider aspect ratio exemplified in another case photo

Another photo of a protective case designed for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 4 has emerged online, lending more credibility to the rumor that Samsung is rethinking the Z Fold formula and giving the Z Fold 4 a slightly wider aspect ratio.

The new photo offers a much better side-by-side view of the Galaxy Z Fold 4's purported dimensions compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 but doesn't reveal any new design elements. (via @UniverseIce)

In other words, we still can't be sure if the camera housing will look like it does on the Galaxy Z Fold 3 or the Galaxy S22 Ultra. But more importantly, the new photo below once again suggests that the Z Fold 4 will have a wider aspect ratio than all other Z Fold models before it.

The new design could improve the user experience significantly

The unusual aspect ratio of previous Samsung Fold phones is one of the biggest pet peeves among users. With that in mind, the wider aspect ratio of the upcoming Z Fold 4 model could be a game-changer, even if it may not seem like a huge change.

The wider aspect applies to both the cover and foldable displays and should benefit all use cases, save for one-hand usability. It should make the exterior panel feel more conventional, i.e., more akin to what you'd find on a regular candy bar smartphone. It could also lead to more apps getting optimized for both the cover and foldable panels.

Other than the aspect ratio, the placement of the cameras, buttons, and ports for the Galaxy Z Fold 4 remains unchanged. But rumors have it that Samsung has also improved the hinge design and mechanism.

The company may also be working on hiding the under-display camera behind more reflective pixels – roughly 400 of them instead of 172. And, of course, there are countless other minor hardware improvements expected later this year.

The Galaxy Z Fold 4 and its smaller sibling, the Galaxy Z Flip 4, should be announced in August or September at the next Samsung Galaxy Unpacked event.
