The one Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 change we wanted isn’t happening

Last year we heard a rumor that Samsung will be adopting a MediaTek chipset for at least one of its upcoming phones. Last month, that rumor made a comeback and added that the MediaTek Dimensity 9000 SoC could be powering the upcoming Galaxy S22 FE. Then, the Korean Media jumped in and added the Galaxy S23 into the same MediaTek pot as the S22 FE.

However, according to another rumor passed along via Twitter, Samsung has no such plans. The company won't adopt MediaTek chipsets for the Galaxy S22 FE or the Galaxy S23, which could mean that these devices should hit the market as usual, i.e., featuring Exynos chipsets in some regions and Snapdragon in others.

At the end of the day, Samsung's choice of SoC for the Galaxy S22 FE and Galaxy S23 remains uncertain. The company could swap Qualcomm for MediaTek and keep its Exynos brand going, or it may shelve Exynos for a while. After all, there are also rumors that Samsung could be developing a new chipset specifically for its Galaxy smartphones.

It certainly wouldn't make much sense for Samsung to abandon Exynos after its efforts to bring AMD on board, but the Exynos 2200 isn't anything groundbreaking, so you never know what the company might plan next.

Then again, MediaTek appears to have cracked the code of the flagship SoC, figuratively speaking, and its Dimensity 9000 solution looks promising. So, it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing for customers if Samsung chose it over Exynos or Snapdragon.

It's just too early to tell, and there's a lot of guesswork in the industry right now. We'll keep digging for answers and let you know once we find out more.
