Galaxy phones with Snapdragon SoCs to get better location tracking soon

Samsung Galaxy smartphones powered by Qualcomm chipsets will become better at location tracking beginning Q2 2022. More precisely, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 888 chipsets, in particular, will soon take advantage of new technologies from Trimble RTX that enable meter-level location accuracy.

Qualcomm announced today that the Trimble RTX GNSS correction services platform and technologies will be enabled through firmware updates for two flagship-grade Snapdragon chipsets (8 Gen 1 and 888) in the coming weeks. Devices powered by these chipsets should then be capable of more accurate location-based tracking and enable user experiences such as car navigation with lane-level guidance with an accuracy of about 3 feet (~1 meter).

Exynos chipsets might be missing out on this advanced tech

Samsung wasn't mentioned in Qualcomm's press release, but the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and 888 chipsets power a few Galaxy devices, which should take advantage of these Trimble RTX technologies once they roll out in Q2. In other words, your Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Snapdragon 888-powered Samsung phone should become better at GPS tracking and car navigation in the coming months.

Galaxy phones powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset include the Galaxy S21 FE 5G, the Galaxy S21 series, the Galaxy Z Flip 3 5G, and the Galaxy Z Fold 3 5G. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 is powering the Galaxy S22 lineup. Keep in mind that these SoCs are available in certain markets only. In others, these phones are powered by Exynos SoCs, and they probably won't take advantage of Trimble RTX technologies anytime soon.
