Samsung Networks, Samsung's networking infrastructure arm, has announced that it has been selected by NTT East to jointly build a private 5G network in Japan. Both firms will begin offering commercial private 5G networks in the country to enterprise customers sometime in Q2 2022.

Both firms had conducted a series of tests last year to make sure that Samsung's network infrastructure holds up to the requirements and specifications required to build optimized private 5G networks. The companies successfully completed a 5G SA (Standalone) technological verification earlier this month. The test showed improved uplink and downlink speeds, and it will help NTT East and Samsung Networks offer enough bandwidth that's required by advanced services.

For this test, the companies had used SamsungNetworks” end-to-end 5G solution that includes the 5G core, a baseband unit, and an outdoor unit. HP's software was also a part of the test to increase network security. The test was conducted on NTTEast'ss 4.8—4.9GHz spectrum, which is dedicated to local 5G networks in Japan.

Woojune Kim, Executive Vice President, Head of Global Sales & Marketing, Networks Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Private 5G networks, powered by Samsung's comprehensive portfolio of 5G solutions, will create a new wave of opportunities for enterprises, driven by improved productivity and superior connectivity. We're proud to support NTT East in the expansion of Local 5G, which will impact a range of industries including agriculture, manufacturing, and transportation.”

Samsung has been working with various brands across the globe to build private 4G and 5G networks. Enterprises and businesses can use these networks to offer secure data access to its employees in the field.
