The Galaxy S22 series was made official today during the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event. Although the new smartphones may seem like minimal upgrades over their predecessors, Samsung has made several improvements for better performance and battery life. One such improvement comes in the form of a new display for the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 6.8-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2x display with QHD+ resolution, up to 120Hz refresh rate, 1,750 nits peak brightness, HDR10+, Gorilla Glass Victus+ protection, and an in-display ultrasonic fingerprint reader. It can vary its refresh rate from as low as 1Hz for static content to as high as 120Hz for fast-motion graphics. That’s better than even the iPhone 13 Pro, which goes as low as 10Hz.
In comparison, the Galaxy S20 Ultra’s display had a fixed 120Hz refresh rate and the Galaxy S21 Ultra’s display can only go as low as 10Hz for static content. A wider refresh rate range could result in a more power-efficient display and longer battery life in similar circumstances.
The combination of a new display panel, a more power-efficient processor, and newer software should offer longer battery life compared to the Galaxy S21 Ultra. However, only real-life testing can reveal how much of a difference it would make in terms of battery life. Of course, we will test the Galaxy S22 Ultra’s display and battery life when we get our hands on the device.
