There are some phones that are just too difficult to repair. That's largely due to the way they're manufactured. With so much being crammed into smartphones that need to be thinner than ever before, repairability tends to be sacrificed.
Fortunately, that doesn't appear to be the case with the Galaxy S21 FE. A teardown video of Samsung's latest Fan Edition device reveals that repairing it may not be such a horrible job.
Galaxy S21 FE gets a good repairability score
These days, there's a lot of glue and screws used in smartphones to secure all of the components. That makes it quite difficult to repair and replace parts as and when required. The Galaxy S21 Ultra is one such example. It was given a repairability score of 3/10.
The Galaxy S21 FE has a better repairability score. It's obviously not as complicated to manufacture as the Galaxy S21 Ultra. The score it achieves is commendable for a device in its own class.
Peeling off the plastic back takes little more than a heat gun and a prying tool. A lot of components like the battery and the front camera are glued in place, so are the mmWave antennas on the variants that have them.
The main and sub-boards are screwed in place with Philips screws. The backplate would need to be removed in order to replace the screen. The screen is attached to the frame with adhesive so it will also require a heat gun and a prying tool to be freed.
