Galaxy S21 FE: Who’s getting Snapdragon, who’s getting Exynos?

The Galaxy S21 FE isn't the same in every market, and while some regions get the variant powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset, others receive the Exynos 2100 model. However, this year, Samsung's new Fan Edition smartphone breaks tradition and mixes things up a bit to the relief of customers in Europe.

This year, the Galaxy S21 FE in both the USA and Europe is powered by the Snapdragon 888 chipset supplied by Qualcomm. Samsung has leveled the playing field for both continents, and although customers in the USA are used to Galaxy devices powered by Qualcomm solutions, European customers are not. With the Galaxy S21 FE, they'll have a chance to see how life is on the other side of the pond.

Some Galaxy S21 FE variants still get an Exynos SoC

Samsung confirmed that the Galaxy S21 FE has the same Qualcomm chipset in both the USA and Europe but didn't say much about other regions. However, as we've mentioned before, the Galaxy S21 FE is not the same everywhere, which means that there must be an Exynos variant somewhere. And, there is.

Samsung will only sell the Exynos 2100 variant in some regions. Customers in most Asian markets will get the Galaxy S21 FE carrying the “E” model number, which has an Exynos 2100 SoC. Exactly how the company will divvy up the Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon variants in Asia on a per-country basis is unclear, but we'll keep you posted once we find out more.

The Snapdragon 888 and Exynos 2100 chipsets were manufactured on a 5nm process. They each have a mix of eight CPU cores (Cortex-X1, Cortex-A78, Cortex-A55). The Snapdragon 888 SoC includes an Adreno 660 graphics chip, whereas the Exynos variant has a Mali-G78 MP14 GPU.

Samsung will release the Galaxy S21 FE on January 11 in most markets. In Europe, the UK, and the USA, the base model equipped with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage will set customers back €749 / £699 / $699.
