Google announced Android 12L a little over a month ago. The company calls it a “special feature drop” that's meant to make Android 12 more intuitive on tablets and foldable smartphones. Since Samsung makes a few of those, it goes without saying that Android 12L will be available for some of its devices.

The makers of Android have now released the very first Android 12L beta. However, the beta is only available for select Google Pixel smartphones right now. There's no beta for any of the Samsung devices that support Android 12L.

Android 12L beta program is now underway

The Android 12 UI has been optimized with large-screen devices in mind. This will make multi-tasking more powerful and intuitive. The new two-column layout will allow quick settings and notifications to be displayed side by side.

The same layout is also applied to the lock screen with the pattern and pin controls being displayed at the side of the screen for easier reach. On foldable smartphones, Android 12L will optimize the home screen grid and provide a more seamless fold-unfold transition.

Devices running Android 12L will have a new taskbar at the bottom for easier app switching. New gestures will make navigating between apps faster as well. Users can easily drag and drop apps into split screen mode directly from the taskbar.

Google has now released the Android 12L beta for select Pixel smartphones, it's the first of three such releases. Beta 1 will be released for the Lenovo Tab P12 Pro in the coming weeks as well.

Even though there are many Samsung devices that support Android 12L, it's unlikely that they'll get the beta.

Google has previously said that it plans to release Android 12L early next year so we'll have to wait until then.
