Samsung Electronics is among the countless Earth Day supporters, and the company celebrated the event yesterday by holding a lights-off event worldwide. Samsung business sites in Korea and overseas turned the lights off for 10 minutes at 8 pm.
According to Samsung, lights went out for 10 minutes at ten domestic business sites and forty-four overseas branches located in the USA, Europe, China, and Southeast Asia. Participating Samsung subsidiaries included Samsung Electronics Logitech, Samsung Sales, Service, and Samsung Medison.
Even though the tech giant turned the lights off for 10 minutes instead of a full hour, the company estimates that it saved approximately 3,921 kWh during the Earth Day celebration yesterday.
When converted to greenhouse gases, this will result in a reduction of 1,851 kg CO2-eq, which is roughly the same amount of carbon dioxide 786 pine trees can absorb in a year.
Aside from celebrating Earth Day, Samsung is making efforts to reduce waste and enhance sustainability throughout the year via programs and better technologies. Some highlights include:
To celebrate Earth Day and promote recycling and reusability, Samsung also re-released the Galaxy S23 series yesterday through its Certified Re-Newed (CRN) online store. The phones are refurbished and come with a new battery, as well as the usual one-year warranty.
