While Samsung is about to finish the release of its Android 14-based One UI 6.0 update, Google is already planning to release the first look at Android 15. Yes, it has been revealed that Google is planning to release the first Developer Preview of Android 15 tomorrow, and that could reveal what new features we can expect in Samsung's next big software update.

Android 15 Developer Preview release date

In a comment posted (via 9To5Google) on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) website, a developer at Google said that the first Developer Preview version of Android V (Android 15) is scheduled to be released on February 15, 2024. The V in Android V internal codename stands for Vanilla Ice Cream. It should be noted that Google could be late in releasing the first Developer Preview of Android 15 compared to when the first Android 14 Developer Preview was released last year. The update will likely be limited to some Pixel smartphones and tablets, and other brands could release the Android 15 Developer Preview update for some of their phones in the coming months.

Android 15 Developer Preview 1 Release Date Revealed

While the Android 15 Developer Preview hasn't been released yet, some reports have revealed that Google is building a new feature called Private Space for Android 15. It is similar to Secure Folder, which is available on Samsung's Galaxy smartphones and tablets. It will let users hide certain apps and files in a password-protected space on the device. It has also been revealed that Google could make NFC independent of operating system updates, which means NFC could be updated like an app update.

Google could also bring iPhone-like battery health percentage to Android devices with Android 15. The next big version of Android could also bring Apple-like continuity features that let you switch calls from one device to another and start Wi-Fi Hotspot and Wi-Fi Sharing remotely. It could also bring much more feature-rich support for Bluetooth LE-based Aurcast.

When can we expect One UI 7.0 update to be released?

Samsung will likely build a lot more features on top of Android 15. If the company's track record is anything to go by, we can expect the first beta version of One UI 7.0 (based on Android 15) to be released in Q3 of 2024, and the stable One UI 7.0 update could be released to eligible Galaxy phones and tablets in Q4 2024.

Meanwhile, Samsung will release the One UI 6.1 update to dozens of Galaxy smartphones and tablets in the next 2-3 months. You can watch all the new features and design changes that One UI 6.1 brings in our in-depth video below.
