Has Samsung outsmarted Apple with Galaxy S24 Ultra Titanium?

Apple switched to Titanium with the iPhone 15 Pro last year. It was an indication of things to come, that other manufacturers would soon follow suit and introduce Titanium on their phones as well. Sure enough, it was rumored soon after that we might see this material on the Galaxy S24 series.

The Galaxy S24 Ultra is the first and only smartphone from Samsung yet that comes with Titanium. It appears that Samsung has learned from Apple's mistakes and perhaps outsmarted the company in its implementation of this material.

Titanium Galaxy S24 Ultra may hide its scratches more effectively

Apple uses physical vapor deposition or PVD coating for the different colorways of the Titanium iPhone 15 Pro. The Natural Titanium color is the only one without the coating. Users quickly found that the PVD coating would scratch easily and make the device look shabby.

Only the Natural Titanium would stand up well against general wear and tear. This wasn't entirely due to the PVD coating. Apple also went for darker frames which only accentuated the scratches as they appeared.

While Samsung hasn't revealed much information about the Titanium grade it's using for the Galaxy S24 Ultra, it does seem to have made a smarter decision by opting for lighter-colored frames, with the exception of Titanium Black. So even if the material itself scratches, the lighter frame wouldn't make the scratches stand out as much, enabling users to show off the incredible finish of their device and not have to hide it behind a case.

Just how well the Galaxy S24 Ultra's Titanium holds up against the rigors of daily use remains to be seen, that's one of the things we'll be looking at closely in our full review that's coming soon. In the meantime, don't forget to take advantage of Samsung's amazing Galaxy S24 pre-order deals, there are incredible discounts to be had.
