Benchmark for European Galaxy S24 Ultra turns the world on its head

If you've been with us throughout the day, you should know that the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24+ and the Galaxy S24 Ultra enabled by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 SoC have popped up in online benchmarks.

These entries in Geekbench have confirmed a few rumors circulated for months. But now, the international Galaxy S24 Ultra — the one that will go on sale in Europe — has also shown up on Geekbench with downright surprising results (via Galaxy Club).

On the one hand, this new benchmark confirms that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset even in Europe, even if the base and Plus models in the same region won't enjoy this exclusivity and will sport the Exynos 2400 chip instead.

On the other hand, this new benchmark entry throws a spanner in the works through the results it presents. Surprise! Benchmark scores for the European Galaxy S24 Ultra (SM-S928B) are lower even than the ones recorded by the Galaxy S24+ Exynos 2400 model.

    Story continues after the video

A friendly reminder that these benchmarks may be too early to tell the whole truth

As seen in the screenshot above, the European Galaxy S24 Ultra powered by the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip as the USA version scores way fewer points than both its stateside counterpart and the Galaxy S24+ with an Exynos 2400 chip under the hood.

The SM-S928B variant tops 2059 points in single-core tests and 4,506 points in multi-core. In contrast, the SM-S928U variant rocking the same chip yielded 2234 and 6807 points.

And to make matters even more interesting, the Exynos 2400-powered Galaxy S24+ reached 2067 and 6520 points, respectively. In other words, the European Galaxy S24 Ultra model, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, performs the worst.

Something doesn't add up. And, in short, it doesn't add up because we're looking at pre-release models or prototypes, and Samsung hasn't fully optimized the chips for its latest in-development flagships. As such, we should expect different benchmark results by the time the Galaxy S24 series is ready to go on sale early next year.

If anything, even though these benchmark results don't add up or mean much at this time, at least we got some form of confirmation that the Galaxy S24 Ultra will indeed boast the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in every market — even Europe.
