You just got your first Samsung smartwatch, or you're considering buying one, and you're wondering what the next step might be for you to take full advantage of the new wearable's capabilities. Wonder no more. The next step is the Galaxy Wearable mobile app.

As part of our weekly series, today, we're exploring the smartwatch section of the Galaxy Wearable app. Previously, we explained how Galaxy Wearable acts as a hub app for your wearable Samsung devices.

Galaxy Wearable is the core component that helps you connect a Galaxy wearable to your smartphone or tablet. It expands the wearable device's capabilities with new settings and customization options.

    Story continues after the video

    Galaxy Wearable smartwatch settings overview

In essence, Galaxy Wearable is the go-to app for smartwatch users. It not only creates a bridge between the wearable to your mobile device but also enables new features for your smartwatch.

You can access the smartwatch section in Galaxy Wearable via the hamburger menu. There, you have access to an overview of your active watch face, the name of your device, and how much battery charge it has left.

The rest of the Galaxy Wearable interface can be split into two main categories: one that lets you customize the UI of your smartwatch in great detail, and one that helps you manage smartwatch settings and acquire more Wear OS apps from the store.

In-depth smartwatch customization can be done through the Watch Faces, App Screen, Tiles, and Quick Panel sections. Each of these section offers a wide range of customization options for watch faces, tiles, apps, and quick toggles. Numerous UI elements can be moved around and/or recolored.

NOTE: Many of these customization options are available directly on your smartwatch, but using the Galaxy Wearable app to access them is more convenient, and the mobile app often offers additional settings.

Moving on to the other category, we have: Watch Settings, Find My Watch, Tips and User Manual, and Store.

The Watch Settings screen lets you change the behavior of your smartwatch, from notifications, to display settings, sounds and vibration, workout detection and health sensor settings, safety and emergency features, and more. In essence, this is where you set up your Galaxy smartwatch to behave as you want it to.

The last three sections — Find My Watch, Tips and User Manual, and Store — should be self-explanatory. The first option lets you find your smartwatch via SmartThings Find in case you misplaced it. The Tips section can help you find new tricks for your smartwatch, and the Store is the place where you can browse through Wear OS apps.

If you're looking to add a Galaxy smartwatch to your device portfolio, Samsung announced the latest Galaxy Watch 6 series last month and put it on sale a couple of weeks ago. The company also continues selling the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro as its own separate niche device. But regardless of whether you want a new smartwatch or to learn more about the Galaxy Wearable app, you can join us tomorrow for the next segment in our series.
