According to the latest statement by Samsung India's senior executive, SSIR (Samsung Semiconductor India Research), which is the research arm of the South Korean firm, has over 1,100 patents to its credit. This number of patents at SSIR is all thanks to the 4,000 engineers working from the Bengaluru R&D center on some key technologies related to semiconductors.

As per the Corporate Vice President and Managing Director of SSIR, Balajee Sowrirajan, SSIR Bengaluru is responsible for some of the cutting edge and advanced technologies development, including image sensors of very high resolution, which are not only Samsung first but industry first as well.

For the past 20 years, SSIR has been involved in sensors, DRAM, storage solutions, and neural processes. “We are world leaders in DRAM, or the volatile memories as we call them. We are a microcosm of Samsung Semiconductors in Korea. We work on all these areas,” Sowrirajan said. SSIR also works both in the automotive and mobile segments.

Apart from sensors, Samsung Semiconductor India Research is also involved in the development of other advanced products. The number of patents, i.e., 1,100, shows the kind of innovation that Samsung has at SSIR. Notably, SSIR has also joined hands with Bengaluru’s premier science research university, the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), in the electrostatic discharge (ESV) domain and is making good progress.
