Samsung was once again the biggest smartphone brand in India. The South Korean firm managed to ship 6.6 million smartphones to the country, staying close to where it was last year during the same quarter. It shows that the company's business strategy and supply chain is stable, and it is ready to tackle the upcoming holiday season as well as the Cricket World Cup, which will cause smartphone demand to rise.

Samsung's smartphone market share in India was 18% during Q2 2023

According to a report from Canalys, a market research firm, Samsung's smartphone market share in India was 18% in Q2 2023. This is exactly similar to its market share in Q2 2022. The company saw good business after the launch of the Galaxy S23 series, and its new high-end phones have been a great success, thanks to them being powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chips.

The company will launch the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in India sometime next month, a couple of weeks after their official unveiling later this week. The company has even started accepting pre-reservations for its upcoming foldable phones. Samsung launched three Premium Experience Stores in India, each in Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. It plans to launch a total of 15 Premium Experience Stores in India over the next few months.

Samsung Smartphone Market Share Q2 2023 India Million Units Shipments

Vivo was a close second in the race, with a market share of nearly 18% and shipments of around 6.4 million units. Xiaomi fell hard to third place during Q2 2023, two places below its first rank in Q2 2022. The Chinese smartphone firm had a 15% share of the market and 5.4 million unit shipments. Xiaomi's market share includes POCO, its subsidiary firm.

Realme shipped 4.3 million smartphones in India, and its market share was 12% in the second quarter of this year. It is a 29% drop compared to the 6.1 million shipment figure it saw in Q2 2022. OPPO shipped 3.7 million smartphones in India during the second quarter of this year, resulting in a market share of 10%. It is a 7% drop compared to the 4 million smartphones it shipped in Q2 2022.

Apple, once again, failed to enter the top-five smartphone rankings despite reports of iPhone shipments increasing by leaps and bounds in India.
