Samsung has released a new security patch, and as usual, it's steadily spreading across more Galaxy phones. The Galaxy M12 is now getting the June 2023 security patch, but it's also receiving much more than just improved security through the latest firmware. As you may have guessed, Samsung has just begun the One UI 5.1 rollout for the Galaxy M12.

For the moment, the Galaxy M12 is being updated from One UI 5.0 to version 5.1 in South Korea, but more markets should soon follow. The update is available for the SM-M127N variant and carries firmware version M127NKOU5DWF1.

As usual, you can get the update in markets where it is available by opening the Settings app on the phone, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” You can also download the official firmware files from our website and install the update manually using a Windows PC.

Regardless of how you choose to update your Galaxy M12, here's what you can expect from One UI 5.1.

Galaxy M12 One UI 5.1 update changes

The Galaxy M12 is among Samsung's cheaper phones, meaning it's not getting the full One UI 5.1 treatment. Nevertheless, there are plenty of new additions and changes to look forward to if you are a Galaxy M12 user.

As per the official changelog, the M12 running One UI 5.1 gets the shared family album and cleaner file information layout inside the Gallery app, better multitasking through a simplified pop-up view and a “most used apps” section in the split-screen view, and the option to add wallpapers according to Mode (in Modes and Routines).

In addition, Samsung says the Weather app offers more information at a glance and comes with a new home screen widget. And speaking of which, the One UI 5.1 update also brings the new multi-device battery widget to the low-cost phone, improved location accuracy in emergency situations, an option that lets you select the folder where screenshots get saved, and more smart suggestions inside the Settings app, tailored to your mobile experience.
