Samsung Display has unveiled the world's first mobile OLED panel with a built-in fingerprint reader and a heart-rate sensor. This panel, called Sensor OLED, can significantly reduce a smartphone's or tablet's complexity by integrating biometrics and health tracking. This type of screen can come to high-end phones in the near future.

Samsung's Sensor OLED is the world's first panel to integrate fingerprint and heart rate sensors

The world leader in mobile OLED display technologies, Samsung Display, has announced that it will showcase the world's first OLED panel with built-in fingerprint and cardiovascular tracking technologies. The panel will be showcased during the SID Display Week 2023 event at Los Angeles Convention Center, California, USA. The company's Sensor OLED panel has built-in light sensing OPD (Organic PhotoDiode), which means that companies don't need to fit a separate fingerprint reader under the OLED panel, saving cost and space inside a device.

Since the light sensing technology is built into each pixel of this new Sensor OLED panel, it can sense fingerprints or heart rate information from multiple fingers at the same time. This allows the device to offer more accurate biometric authentication and measure blood pressure. The new OLED panel can also measure the stress levels of the user simultaneously. This new OLED panel could be used in smartphones in the near future.

A Samsung Display executive said, “To accurately measure a person’s blood pressure, it is necessary to measure the blood pressure of both arms. The Sensor OLED display can simultaneously sense the fingers of both hands, providing more accurate health information than existing wearable devices.Samsung also unveiled its first rollable OLED panel for mobile devices, measuring 12.4 inches.
