Pixel smartphones have already picked up the latest Android security updates. Now, Google has detailed all the changes that it will bring to your devices with the January 2023 Play System updates. The update basically packs under-the-hood improvements to make your devices perform smoother and also brings improvements to Play Protect.

The overhaul of the Play Games user profile is one of the major changes or highlights of this new Google Play System January 2023 update. Although no specifics have been shared, Google said that the changes will be visible on both phones and PCs. If we have to take a guess, it is related to the recent release of Play Games for PC.

The changelog for the January 2023 Google Play System update reads, “Expanding the range of users and use cases supported by the Play Games profile.” So, you can expect the Play Games profile to support more users and use cases with Google Play System v23.01. There are some developer-focused changes as well, including Android’s device connectivity-related services.

With the new update, Google is also bringing improvements and optimizations that will allow for faster and more reliable downloads and installations of apps and games. There will be new features to discover apps and games, but detailed information isn't available. That is it for now, but you can expect Google to expand the changelog as the month progresses.

Google Play system updates can be installed or checked for a new one, by going to Settings » About phone » Android version » Google Play system update.
