Samsung has the original video of a GTA V mod that turns the Galaxy Note 7 into a bomb taken down

Remember the video of the Grand Theft Auto V mod that replaces the traditional in-game sticky bomb with a recalled Galaxy Note 7? If you don’t, there’s a good chance you’ve seen the clip without realizing it as it quickly went viral for poking harmless fun at Samsung’s ongoing exploding smartphone crisis.

However, it would appear that the manufacturer didn’t see the funny side of the tweak as it’s now filed a bogus copyright claim to have the video pulled from YouTube. It’s worth noting, though, that the creator hasn’t actually copied anything as the mod is merely a parody of a real world situation, which means that Samsung is abusing the DCMA tool.

Fortunately, there are a slew of other videos available on YouTube that showcase the mod just as good as the clip that was taken down, including the one embedded below. If you are planning on watching it, we recommend that you turn up the volume on your device before hitting the Play button as the commentary is actually pretty funny.

It is a good joke but it’s not a “bogus” copyright claim. Word for word from my wife who is a corporate lawyer. The use of a company product image without permission in a commercial product like this game is a clear breach of copyright. It’s perfectly fine to use an image of the phone as joke but you can’t just use it to publicize another product. Still a good joke though, but Samsung were within their legal rights. Article writers should confine themselves to tech writing as they don’t have the legal knowledge to decide on what’s bogus or… Read more »

This is nonsensical. I’m not averse to negative reviews but this is gross mischaracterization of the issue. There’s not been a single exploding Samsung Note 7.

If they want to prosecute legitimate issues with Samsung phones they should talk about the lag and melting batteries. Calling the issue exploding is simply lying!

I rather like the no spin reporting that has been going on lately. I don’t want to read some fluff piece written to try and avoid real issues with Samsung products. No company is perfect and I want to hear about both positive and negative things regarding one of my favorite tech companies. My house is a Samsung house(we have a lot of Samsung tech).

There is no report on the site you just said, how the 32gb iPhone 7 write files way slower than the s7 edge 32gb and the hard disks speeds that have been tested in reviews are just for the bigger size iPhones, this is the case for the iPhone 6s also

Mister VBX,

How do you think we need to report news than. One sided and only positive news about Samsung??

Hey, when there is negative news you should report it as well. That is what reporting is all about reporting everything good and the bad.

If you have any suggestions please let me know.

Cheers,

Martin

Well we write news as it comes…. Unfortunateley with the sh*tstorm of the N7 it is most negative the last weeks. We don’t like it either. Yet, it is how it is….

Rewind to the Note 7 launch and there was no critic to be found about the lack of distinguishing Note features spelled out in the comments numerous times.
