Samsung working on a ‘perfect’ smartwatch, reveals Samsung EVP
Despite all the fanfare around the Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge launch, what left many wanting was the fact that Samsung didn’t launch a smartwatch at the MWC. If you, like me, had been wondering why that’s the case, Samsung’s EVP might have an answer. “We’ve been introducing more devices than anybody else,” adds Young-hee Lee, who’s in charge of Samsung’s mobile marketing efforts. “It’s time for us to pause.”
With a total of six smartwatches in its kitty, Samsung now “wants a more perfect product,” according to Young-hee Lee. Now, whether this change in policy is a result of Apple’s new smartwatch or just plain coincidence, only time till tell.

Hopefully it’ll finally be a smartwatch worthy of the name. Instead of your grandfather’s watch with a few flashy icons. All those disgustingly retro swiss watch models are A, Soemthing your grandfather wore when h was your age, B, not useful for 51% of the market (As they’re twice the size of most women’s wrists), and C, no woman likes wearing a male watch. And D, all the new models from other brands are is an analog watch face with a few tiny icons. You can’t even read a message on it, you can only see you’ve got one. How… Read more »
Agreed that the models are too big for women. Not too big for men, though – right on spot with current watches. The problem is the display quality (PPI), but this will get better.
Regarding d), you obviously haven’t used a smartwatch yet. Even on the Gear Fit you can read messages, and all newer watches (esp. Android Wear) allow you to respond via voice, which works great. If that isn’t screen based, I don’t know what is.
Where you got this info? I must admit, Apple is making that smartwatch look very desirable even though it may not be doing much. They know how to sell image very good. I hope samsung comes up with something great to stop them from tempting me lol.
The iWatch looks like its 1989, Casio galore.
Samsung is already been reported to have Pranav Mistry (head of Gear Wearables Division and lead Engineer/Designer) working in co-operation with a new Indian wearables MIPS chip maker to use their chips in next Gear wearables. These chips will be capable of lasting weeks… not just days with new Polymer Lithium Ion batteries. That can also be worn in the wristband itself, outside the smartwatch. They have also teamed up with Qualcomm on these new wearable chips to help this Silicon Valley Startup in getting their chip design ramped up in India too! Pranav has also reached out to numerous… Read more »

That makes a lot of sense. I like Pranav Mistry a lot, and I’m glad to see his name still around Samsung. Good stuff.
