Introduction

The Galaxy S20+ sits between the range-topping Galaxy S20 Ultra and just above the base Galaxy S20. It shares a lot of its internals with the latter but has enough differentiating factors of its own to be considered worthy of your money.

Given its position in the lineup, though, it does have to play a bit of a balancing act. Since Samsung went all out bonkers with the Galaxy S20 Ultra, at least in the camera department, the Galaxy S20+ won't be taking away any sales from the most expensive model simply because it doesn't offer the same camera functionality.

Design

As you'd expect, the Galaxy S20+ doesn't look all that different from the other handsets in this lineup. The front is dominated by an Infinity-O display that's covered by 2.5D glass for more subtle curves. The punch hole for the camera is placed dead center, unlike the right-aligned hole that we saw on this handset's predecessor.

The Galaxy S20+ measures 161.9 x 73.7 x 7.8 mm and features Samsung's signature metal and glass build. It's well protected with IP68 water and dust resistance. The most significant design change has been made at the back as the camera setup's new placement changes a fundamental Samsung design element. There's going to be a USB Type-C port at the bottom with a speaker next to it but no standard headphone jack.

Specifications

Under the Galaxy S20+'s hood, you'll find Samsung's 7nm Exynos 990 processor with 128GB of intenral storage and 8GB of RAM. The Snapdragon 865 powers the Galaxy S20+ in a handful of markets like the United States. There's microSD expansion support for up to 1TB.

Keeping all the lights on is a 4,500mAh battery with support for 25W wired fast charging. Samsung offers both LTE-only and 5G variants of the Galaxy S20+.

Display

The Galaxy S20+ features a 6.7-inch 3200×1440 pixel resolution WQHD+ Dynamic AMOLED display. It is a 120Hz refresh rate display, as we exclusively confirmed. The higher refresh rate means that animations and graphics in games will appear much smoother. An ultrasonic in-display fingerprint sensor will be embedded within the display for access control.

Camera

Samsung has equipped the Galaxy S20+ with a camera setup that's almost the same as the Galaxy S20. It has the same 12-megapixel f/1.8 primary camera with a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra-wide and a 64-megapixel f/2.0 telephoto camera. The only addition here is a Time-of-Flight sensor which is not present on the Galaxy S20. There's support for up to 30x digital zoom and 8K 30fps video recording. A 10-megapixel front camera with 4K 60fps video support is also present.

Software and new features

Android 10 comes pre-installed on the Galaxy S20+ with One UI 2.1. The latest iteration of One UI brings a handful of new features. This includes features like Quick Share which enables users to easily share files with people in their vicinity.

The Music Share feature allows them to piggyback off of another device's Bluetooth connection in order to play music on speakers and in-car audio systems. Samsung has also introduced several new camera features with One UI 2.1.

Samsung will release three major OS upgrades for the device so it remains supported up until Android 12. The company released Android 12 One UI 4.0 for the Galaxy S20+ in December 2021.

Release date and price

The Galaxy S20+ series was unveiled on February 11 at Samsung's Unpacked event in San Francisco, California. It's priced at $1199.99 and is available in Cosmic Gray, Cloud Blue, Cosmic Black and Aura Blue colors.
