There is no doubt that Samsung has been extremely late in releasing One UI 7 to existing devices, but there could be two reasons for this delay:
Many people online claim that Samsung is intentionally delaying the release of One UI to existing phones like the Galaxy S24 to force people to buy the Galaxy S25.
However, there is one problem with that theory. Samsung hasn't gatekept new One UI versions exclusive to new phones in the past. Over the past few years, a new version of One UI has always been released for an existing Galaxy S series phone first. In fact, Samsung has been among the first brands to release new Android updates.
So, why has the update been delayed this time?
One UI 7 is a significant update, featuring a major UI redesign and lots of new features. Some reports say that One UI 7 has been built from the ground up, and it takes time to make such a major change.
I recently wrote that one reason for this delay could also be that Google is holding back on its AI infrastructure. Samsung went all in with AI features with One UI 6.1. With One UI 7.0, Samsung has added more AI features and used Google's Gemini to power most of them. Once One UI 7.0 goes live for millions of Galaxy users, Google's AI infrastructure needs to be fully ready.
No one knows exactly why Samsung delayed the release of One UI 7.0. It is possible that there are multiple reasons. This looks like a one-off delay from Samsung. We have asked Samsung for a statement regarding this delay.
I hope Samsung manages to get things sorted as soon as possible and give users what they have been waiting for so patiently.
Until then, don't forget to watch our video that explains all the new One UI 7.0 features.
