Let’s hope Samsung will help us pick the correct Galaxy Ring size

Samsung is expected to enter a new wearable device market segment and release its first smart ring later this year. Samsung confirmed the Galaxy Ring at Mobile World Congress 2024 a few weeks ago and may officially launch the new wearable at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event, which we exclusively revealed should take place in early July.

If priced correctly, I'm looking forward to buying the Galaxy Ring this year. However, it won't be as easy as ordering a smartwatch. Even though the Galaxy Ring is supposed to offer the most seamless health and fitness tracking experience ever, a little bit of preparation is needed before you can buy one.

Although smartwatches are more or less “one size fits all,” Galaxy Rings won't be adjustable. Fortunately, they should fit most people, as Samsung revealed no fewer than nine sizes at MWC 2024 (5 through 13).

Even so, prospective buyers will have to know or find out their ring size before they can confidently pick a Galaxy Ring size and order one online. They may also have to look at some charts and do conversions, which isn't very fun. That is why I hope Samsung will consider all these aspects and help out customers who want to buy a Galaxy Ring.

Samsung will hopefully help us find our ring sizes easily

I haven't worn a ring in years, and I don't know my ring size. I started looking into this, and it turns out that ring sizes are not universal. Different regions use different measurements, and it can get pretty confusing. In any case, those “5 through 13” ring sizes Samsung confirmed at MWC correspond only to the measurement system used in the USA.

Different measurement systems aside, if you're like me and need to find out your ring size before you can buy the Galaxy Ring, there are a few options. You can either go to a jewelry store and ask to be measured, do the measuring at home, provided you have the right measurement tools and a guide, try your luck with third-party ring size mobile apps, or buy a bunch of cheap rings in different sizes and see which one fits you best — hoping, of course, that those rings are sized accurately and will match the official Galaxy Ring sizes.

Another option would be to wait for the Galaxy Ring to go on sale and try one on at a physical store. But personally, I just really hope Samsung will make it easy for everyone to find their ring sizes.

Maybe Samsung can leverage some of its AR (Augmented Reality) technology and knowledge, combined with some AI (Artificial Intelligence), to develop a clever AR app that would allow Galaxy phone users to find their ring sizes using the camera.

To me, that would be the perfect tool and maybe even a way to generate a bit more hype before the Galaxy Ring's release. And it would add some real value to the otherwise forgettable AR Zone suite.

Then again, seeing how Samsung's existing AR Zone suite is often inaccurate, the company would probably have some work to do to create a reliable AR app that could accurately determine the user's ring size through the camera lenses.

Even so, I'm hoping it is possible to do this and help future Galaxy Ring buyers. Or that Samsung has at least thought of another easy and clever way to help its customer find their ring sizes at home and confidently buy a Galaxy Ring online. Fingers crossed.
