Brian Acton and Jan Kou started WhatsApp as an instant messaging app. However, since Meta took over the platform, the brand has been slowly adding social media features to it, especially from Instagram. Now, the Mark Zuckerberg-led company has started testing another widely used Instagram feature to WhatsApp.
According to a new report from WABetaInfo, the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android offers a like button on the status viewing screen, just like the one you see when viewing statuses on Instagram, as you can see in the screenshot below.
The new feature allows you to like/react to a status without sending any emojis. Interestingly, this version of WhatsApp also packs an option to “Show notifications when you get likes on a status,” as you can see in the screenshot below.
At the moment, this feature is only available for internal testers. Soon, Meta will make it available to beta testers, and eventually, to the public, which could take a couple of months. Follow us on Telegram or WhatsApp to get more such updates.
