It has been spotted that WhatsApp's screen-sharing feature could bring audio capabilities, too. According to a report from Android Authority, the latest version of WhatsApp (2.23.25.20) for Android contains a code string that throws some light on the upcoming feature. When you share a screen with the person on the other side of the call, the contents of the screen are visible along with the audio from the phone. So, you can watch videos together or listen to music together. You may even be able to play games while the other person is watching it live.
This upcoming feature could make presentations easier. It can also be used for better troubleshooting while you're helping your parents when they're stuck understanding some features of their phones. It could also be potentially used to create watch parties where you and your friends can watch a movie or TV show together. However, there are several restrictions from apps like Disney+, Netflix, and Prime Video, so they may disable screen sharing. You can watch offline videos together, though.
This feature hasn't appeared yet in the beta version of the app, so it will take some time before WhatsApp starts testing audio capabilities while screen sharing. Once the testing is complete, the feature could be rolled out gradually to Android users. Whether or not it will come to iOS users remains to be seen.
