RCS was meant to offer a huge upgrade over SMS and MMS on Android phones. However, the rollout has been slow and problematic since its initial release. Even with Apple adopting the standard for iPhones, RCS hasn't gained as much traction as many expected. Now, it is facing another major issue, but Google is working on a fix.
Several Android users recently reported that RCS messages containing files, photos, videos, and other media attachment types were failing to send. Following these reports, Google confirmed to Android Authority that it is aware of the delivery bug and is actively working on a solution.
A Google spokesperson stated:
“We are aware of a bug affecting a subset of Google Messages users that can lead to disrupted RCS message delivery. We are rolling out a fix that will reach everyone over the coming weeks. Please ensure you stay up to date with the most recent version of Google Messages.“
Still, waiting a few weeks for a resolution is frustrating for anyone who relies on RCS every day. It also remains unclear whether the fix will arrive via a Google Messages app update or through a broader Google Play system update.
If you are a Galaxy smartphone user and are facing this issue, keep checking for an update to the Google Message app via the Google Play Store.
