Last year, Mark Gurman claimed that Apple would launch two AirPods 4th Generation models and updated AirPods Max in late 2024. Now, the analyst says that the plan is “still underway” (via MacRumors). So, if you have been planning to get AirPods 3rd Generation or AirPods Max, it would be a good idea to hold off on the purchase.

Among the two AirPods 4th Generation models, the entry-level model will feature a new design for a more comfortable fit, better sound quality, and a new charging case with a USB Type-C port, whereas, the higher-end model will additionally offer active noise cancellation and feature a speaker in the case to play sound from Find My.

AirPods Max, on the other hand, will offer only one upgrade, and that’s the shift from the Lightning port to the USB Type-C port. It will also come in additional colours but that’s about it. There are no major changes, which will be quite disappointing. Mark also says that Apple will launch AirPods Pro 3 with an updated chip in 2025.
