Samsung has announced that twelve of its products have won the ‘Green Product of the Year' awards in South Korea. It became the most award-winning company in a year ever, thanks to its environmental-friendly products. The Korea Green Product of the Year event was hosted every year by the non-profit civic group Green Purchasing Network.
The South Korean tech giant also received the Green Product of the Year 10 Award, something that's only awarded to companies that win the Green Product of the Year award ten times. The Samsung products that received the award are:
- Bespoke Dishwasher
- Bespoke Refrigerator
- Direct Fire Oven
- Galaxy Book Flex
- Galaxy S20 series (Galaxy S20, Galaxy S20+, and Galaxy S20 Ultra)
- Grande AI Dryer
- Grande AI Washing Machine
- Mufeng Air Conditioning Gallery
- SH650 Monitor
- The Plate Induction Cooker
- The Serif 49-inch TV
- Wind-Free Air Conditioner
The Bespoke Dishwasher and the Bespoke Refrigerator achieved the highest energy efficiency rating in South Korea. The Direct Fire Oven and The Plate induction cooktop were also awarded due to their power efficiency. The Galaxy Book Flex received the award due to its battery that has three times longer life compared to the standard laptop batteries. As a result, 110,000 tons of lower carbon dioxide is generated over five years.
Samsung has drastically reduced the use of plastic in packing its smartphones, including the Galaxy S20 series. It replaced plastic with Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, which is an eco-friendly material. The company also used recycled plastic to manufacture fast chargers for Galaxy S20 smartphones. The Grande AI dryers and washing machines optimize drying and washing by using AI, resulting in saved electricity and time.
The Serif TV packaging is made using eco-friendly material, and it can be turned into various showpieces for home decoration. Samsung also announced that it has already achieved the target of reducing 250 million tons of cumulative emissions by reducing 270 million tons of greenhouse gas emissions from 2009 to 2019.
