In October 2023, Meta started testing a feature on Threads that shows the trending topics (topics that people are discussing the most at the moment) on the platform. Now, the Head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri, has announced that the company has started rolling out the feature to a limited number of people on a test basis in the United States.

You will be able to see topics that people are discussing the most at the moment on Threads under the ‘Today’s topics’ section, which, the platform will show on the Search page as well as on the For You feed. According to Adam, AI systems will determine the topics that people are discussing the most and those topics will be reviewed by content specialists “to make sure they’re not duplicative or confusing” before Threads shows it to you. He also says that political trends will also be eligible to appear in this section.

At the moment, there’s no information on when Meta/Instagram will roll out the feature more widely. However, going by Meta’s feature rollout history, expect that to happen in the next few weeks. Recently, Meta also started testing the ability to save posts on Threads. Expect that feature to also roll out more widely in the next few weeks.
