The Terrace TV becomes one of the main attractions at Postojna Cave Park

Samsung Electronics has found an ingenious way to demonstrate the high level of resilience of The Terrace. Namely, the company has installed its outdoor TV at the heart of the Postojna Cave Park in Slovenia to allow visitors to observe cave-dwelling life forms up close.

More specifically, The Terrace outdoor TV offers a sneak peek at grotto olms, which are some of the largest subterranean vertebrates and the largest cave dwellers. The olm is the only chordate species found in Europe that lives exclusively in caves, and old myths claimed that they were small dragons. Olms are, in fact, aquatic salamanders. The International Union for Conservation of Nature classifies olms as a vulnerable species.

These salamanders, believed to be small dragons a few centuries ago, can live up to 100 years and survive without food for up to a decade. The Terrace outdoor TV now allows more than a million yearly Postojna Cave Park visitors to get a close-up look at these subterranean vertebrates. Samsung says that thanks to The Terrace, “the olms are now attracting a lot of attention.”

No other TV is better suited for the task in this challenging environment. There's a constant high humidity inside the cave system, and temperatures sit at around 10 degrees Celsius. Most other TVs would fail in these conditions, but The Terrace can operate within normal parameters inside the Postojna Cave Park thanks to its IP55 dust and water-resistance rating and its ability to withstand temperatures as low as -50 degrees Celsius.

The Managing Director of Postojna Cave said: “The Terrace makes an important contribution to our mission to protect the olms in Postojna.” The Head of CE Sales Team at Samsung Slovenia said: “We are proud that Samsung can contribute to the rescue of the olms in Postojna Cave. After all, future generations should also have the chance to take a look at the animals. We are delighted that The Terrace can make this possible at close range.”
