Samsung announced a refresh for The Freestyle projector at the beginning of the year during CES 2023. We briefly got our hands on the device at CES in Las Vegas, which was great, but we haven't heard much from The Freestyle Gen 2 since then. Samsung never released it.

Now, Samsung has finally launched a pre-order program for its 2nd generation portable projector in the USA. And perhaps to make up for the long wait, Samsung is giving away a water and dust-resistant case during the pre-order period.

The Freestyle Gen 2 is finally making its way to the market

Samsung says the pre-order window for The Freestyle Gen 2 projector will be open until August 30. The device costs $799, and if you were to buy the IP55-rated dust and water-resistant case separately, you'd pay an extra $59. But as we said, the case is offered as a free bonus during the pre-order period.

The 2nd generation Freestyle looks much like the original model, and the best way to differentiate between the two is through their model numbers. The 2023 Freestyle has model number SP-LFF3CLA.

One significant upgrade The Freestyle Gen 2 brings over the original is Gaming Hub. You gain access to thousands of video games through cloud streaming. You only need a gaming controller and don't have to plug in a dedicated gaming console. Gaming Hub is, well, a hub for other game streaming services, such as Xbox, NVIDIA GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, Utomik, Antstream Arcade, and Blacknut. Each service has its own payment model.

The Freestyle 2 also offers access to Samsung TV Plus, which is the company's ad-supported TV and video-on-demand service with over 250 channels in the USA.

The portable Freestyle Gen 2 can project content in 30-to-100-inch sizes. It has a resolution of 1920 x 1080, and through Edge Blending Technology, you can combine two Freestyle projectors for an even bigger image. Other technologies Samsung included in this portable projector include Auto Leveling, Auto Focus, and Auto Keystone.

One unique characteristic of The Freestyle is that it can be used in a variety of ways. For example, through an optional attachment (purchased separately), it can be screwed in like a lightbulb and project images down from the ceiling.

As of this writing, The Freestyle Gen 2 is not yet available for pre-order, but with the official announcement up, it should pop-up on the Samsung online shop at any moment. Check the link for availability.
