Today, our Samsung S90C OLED TV in India received a new major software update. It carries firmware version 6500, replacing the firmware with version 2024 that the TV was running. It upgrades the TV’s operating system from Tizen OS 8.0 to Tizen OS 9.0, which Samsung introduced last year, and as a part of it, brings a host of new features. [Samsung Tizen OS update]

  • Upgraded Samsung One UI Tizen OS from 8.0 to 9.0 bringing updated version and new features from various open-source components included in the OS.

[Home Screen]

  • New designs, including ranking and keyword rows, have been added to enhance the discovery experience. An auto-sorting feature for the home screen app list is also now available.
  • Some features labels and actions have been updated in the service. (e.g. “Recent” is now “Now Playing”)

[Gaming Hub]

  • Gaming Hub layout has been updated to the latest UI. Personalised content will be curated based on the survey on gameplay. (Supported only in Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Korea, Mexico, Spain, United Kingdom and United States)

[Samsung Daily+]

  • Samsung Daily+, which provides relevant and useful lifestyle experiences, has been newly added to the home category

[Universal Guide]

  • A shortcut has been added for quick access to the lower content rows in the Universal Guide. (Supported only in Canada, France, Germany, India, Italy, Korea, Spain, United Kingdom and United States.)

[Search]

  • The layout of the search UI, such as the location of the on-screen keyboard, has been changed to improve the usability of the search result screen navigation and re-search.

[Subscription Hub]

  • A new subscription dashboard enables you to easily view and manage all subscriptions paid through Samsung Checkout. Samsung account sign-in is required. (Supported countries: https://subscriptionhub.samsung.com/country)

[AI Mode]

  • Real-time screen analysis has been added to the AI Optimised mode to deliver the best image quality for each screen. You can enable EyeComfort Mode in the “Picture” settings.

[Daily Board]

  • Use beautiful wallpapers and useful widgets even when the screen is off. Enable the Daily Board options in the Advanced Features of the All Settings.

[Samsung Internet]

  • Provides a safer way to send browser user data and log in without passwords.

[Workout Tracker]

  • The latest design is applied to the Workout Tracker widget that appears when you connect the Galaxy Watch that uses the same Samsung account as your screen. Check the detailed usage guide in Daily+ on the home menu.

[Workspace]

  • When connecting to Windows PC (Easy Connection) from Workspace, up to 4K resolution is supported.
  • You can log in conveniently without a password with Passkey in Microsoft 365

[Storage Share]

  • You can access the storage space of a Samsung device logged in with the same Samsung account to check the device’s files and view photos and videos.

[Smart View]

  • Samsung account policy is applied, and Samsung account sign-in is required to use Smart View feature.
  • The PIN verification procedure may be exempted when connecting a device logged in to the same Samsung account.

[Multi View]

  • The simultaneous connection function when connecting 2 sets of Galaxy Buds has been improved.
  • Volume control for each screen is supported and recently used Double Audio settings are saved.

[Q-Symphony]

  • You can easily connect your sounder’s network using the one already set up on your Screen device.
  • See the optimal location of Music Frame automatically with Auto Set feature.
  • You can listen to richer sound experience by configuring stereo settings and adjusting the volume to your desired level.
  • Added a pop-up guide to help identify connection issues with Q-Symphony speaker devices.

[ConnecTime]

  • You can search for the name of the person you want to invite from the contact of your Galaxy mobile using the same Samsung account.
  • For more details, refer to the usage guide for various functions using this QR at the top of ConnecTime.

[Game Bar]

  • New visual effects have been added to the Game Bar for a more immersive gaming experience.

[Mobile Remote]

  • Supports a virtual remote to control apps that don’t work with pointing modes on mobile or smartwatch devices.
  • Pointed mode has been added to the mobile remote, allowing you to quickly select the items on the screen.
  • The press-and-hold feature is now supported on the mobile remote Touch Pad.

[Number/Option Pad]

  • Provides teletext and recording functions on the Number/Option Pad.

[Universal Gestures]

  • You can control your Screen device using Galaxy Watch.

[Keyboard]

  • Minimised keyboard was added.
  • The voice input steps for keyboard search have been simplified.
  • Enlarged text on the keyboard to improve readability.

[Connected Devices]

  • Im[roved editing screens design of the connected devices menu.

[Quick Panel]

  • Press the Settings, 123 or Colour buttons to quickly access the Settings menu, virtual numeric pad colour options, or SmartThings

[Settings]

  • The latest setting design of One UI style is applied, so you can change the setting comfortably while watching.
  • Recently used settings shortcut and settings search feature have been added.
  • Advanced features are added to make it easy to see newly introduced ones.
  • Accessibility has been enhanced with bette High Contrast visibility and added Voice Guide explanations for improved usability.
  • Added transparency and size adjustment options for pop menus. Available options may vary by model.
  • When retiring a wireless network connection while using a Wi-Fi sound device, the system now switches to an audio output mode that prevents sound interruptions.

[Sound]

  • Resolved and issue casing occasional sound dropouts on the Screen.

[HDMI]

  • Screen blinking has been fixes when using a set-top box to access content.

[Self Diagnosis]

  • Reduced self-diagnosis time by adding the Test All feature and improved the interface of screen to see the progress at a glance.

[Security]

  • Enhanced security by adding a user PIN step during initial setup and applying open-source patches.

[Security Center]

  • Supports disabling the enhanced data protection feature or recovering your encryption key if your Samsung mobile devices are lost or replaced.

[Auto Picture Off]

  • When using the Picture Off mode, it automatically turns off the screen even if the screen is turned on for a while for operation.

[Auto Power Saving]

  • Provides up to three messages before automatically powering off.
  • Improve the performance of determining device usage status from connected Wi-Fi signals to work in various Wi-Fi environments.

[Chromium]

  • Added mobile microphone support in Chromium and improved remote-control microphone performance.

[Maintenance Mode]

  • The added cloud feature makes it possible to use without storage devices.

We assume that Samsung is rolling out this update not just to the S90C but also to many other TV models, especially those running on Tizen OS 8.0. The brand may also be rolling it out in many other countries besides India. To get it, go to Settings > All Settings > Software Update > Update Now > Upgrade Now.
