Samsung's Exynos is making a slow comeback

Samsung is one of the few smartphone companies that make their own chips. However, the company scaled back the use of its in-house processors a few years ago. Now, its Exynos chips are making a slow comeback.

According to the latest Counterpoint Research report, the global market share for Exynos has grown from just 5% in Q1 2024 to 9% in Q2 2026. The company has used Exynos chips in more high-end devices over the past couple of years.

For example, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 became the first Z Flip device to feature an Exynos chip, while the Galaxy S26 and the Galaxy S26+ used the Exynos 2600 in most markets worldwide.

Even the Galaxy S25 FE, Galaxy S26 FE, and Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE exclusively used Exynos chips globally, which was not the case with earlier models in those lineups in recent years. Most Galaxy A, Galaxy F, and Galaxy M series devices are also using Exynos processors.

In comparison, MediaTek's market share fell from 41% to 31% during the same period, while Qualcomm's market share dropped from 27% to 23%.

Apple's market share climbed from 16% to 19% as iPhone sales increased steadily. Unisoc, which sells low-end chips, has also seen its market share increase from 9% to 13% in recent years.

Reports indicate that Samsung will use the Exynos 2700 chip in the Galaxy S27 and the Galaxy S27+ next year. The chip is reportedly fabricated on Samsung Foundry's second-generation 2nm process, featuring a 10-core CPU and a 16-core Xclipse 970 GPU with a modern AMD RDNA architecture.
