In 2023, Samsung launched the Galaxy Enhance-X app for editing and remastering images using AI. Well, the brand is now rolling out an update to it that adds new features on devices with Android 16-based One UI 8.0.

The latest update to the Galaxy Enhance-X app changes its version to 15.3.06 and brings two new features: Focus Shift and Crop & Upscale. So, what do they do? How do they work? And how effective are they? Let's take a look.

According to Samsung, with Focus Shift, you can “Tap anywhere on your image to bring your subject into sharp focus – Enhance-X will intelligently blur everything else. It’s perfect for portraits, product shots, or turning everyday photos into striking visuals with depth.” We tried it on our Galaxy Z Fold 7 and this is how it works:

As for Crop & Upscale, Samsung says that you can “Enjoy a powerful AI-enhanced zoom experience built into the app allowing you to improve photos up to 5x the resolution.” Note that this feature works only with images that have a resolution of 4MP and below, and the upscaling options are dynamic. So, not every image can be upscaled to 5x. You can check out how effectively it works in the images below.

Both features are currently available only for devices running Android 16-based One UI 8.0, which means that only Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 FE, and Galaxy S25 series users can enjoy it at the moment. As Samsung rolls out One UI 8 to other devices, they should also gain access to these features.
