Samsung is expected to unveil its next Wear OS skin for its smartwatches, One UI 9 Watch, with its upcoming flagship wearables, the Galaxy Watch Ultra 2 and the Galaxy Watch 9, at the Galaxy Unpacked event scheduled for later this month. Ahead of the announcement, the brand appears to have begun development of the new software for one of its current flagship wearables, the Galaxy Watch 8.

A new firmware build for the Galaxy Watch 8, carrying version L320XXU2BZG2, has been spotted on Samsung's servers. Based on the company's firmware versioning convention for its watches, the build appears to be based on a newer version of One UI Watch than the one currently available. Since the Galaxy Watch 8 runs One UI 8 Watch, there's a good chance this firmware is running One UI 9 Watch.

The new firmware suggests that Samsung has started internally testing One UI 9 Watch for the Galaxy Watch 8 even before officially introducing the software with its next-generation smartwatches. In other words, the next major update for the wearable appears to have moved one step closer to release.

One UI 9 Watch is expected to be based on Wear OS 7, which was released last month. It is likely to introduce a refreshed user interface, additional customization options, and several new features. Samsung has said that it will use the update to bring exclusive additions of its own, such as Blood Pressure Trend.
