Samsung has launched its new portable SSD, the SSD T9, to succeed the already popular SSD T7. The new external SSD brings faster data transfer speeds and a newer design. It also comes in more storage sizes than its predecessors, offering more options to those who want more space.

The SSD T9 was leaked a few days ago, revealing some of its features. Let us have a look at its complete specifications and pricing.

SSD T9 offers up to 2,000MB/s data transfer speeds

The SSD T9 features upgraded connectivity, thanks to the USB 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface, offering sequential read and write speeds of up to 2,000 MB/s. That is 2x faster than the SSD T7, which has the USB 3.2 Gen 2 interface for 1,000MB/s transfer speeds. The SSD T9 will be available in 1TB, 2TB, and 4TB capacities. To offer consistent data transfer speeds and avoid overheating, Samsung has equipped the SSD with the Dynamic Thermal Guard system that keeps the temperature in check.

The SSD T9 is roughly the same size as a credit card. It features curved diagonal lines and reverse carbon patterns on the surface, offering a fabric-like feel similar to a luxurious wallet. It is drop-resistant for up to three meters, but there's no water-resistance rating like the SSD T7 Shield. Samsung is offering a five-year warranty on the new SSD.

The Samsung Magician Software 8.0 software that comes with the SSD T9 offers performance benchmarks, added security features, firmware updates, and real-time SSD health status checks. The drive has AES 256-bit hardware encryption and it works with Android, macOS, and Windows, but it will likely also work with iOS, iPadOS, and Linux.

SSD T9 pricing and release date

The pricing of the SSD T9 is $139.99 for the 1TB version, $239.99 for the 2TB version, and $439.99 for the 4TB version. It will be available worldwide starting October 3, 2023. The new storage drive will be available in just one color: black. It comes bundled with a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable and a USB Type-C to USB Type-C cable.

Hangu Sohn, Vice President of Memory Brand Product Biz Team at Samsung Electronics, said, “With advances in high-resolution photos and the rising popularity of 4K videos, professional content creators now face the necessity of transferring large amounts of data on a frequent basis. The T9 offers a solution for professionals to alleviate the challenges that come with managing their data, and Samsung will continue to provide optimized memory solutions that enable professionals to fully concentrate on achieving their creative potential.
