Samsung Electronics aims to have 155.5 million OLED panels ready for Galaxy smartphones this year, and the conglomerate's Display division has the bulk of the order at 96%, down from 99% last year — market analysts say. This decline is a consequence of Samsung Electronics' increased reliance on Chinese OLED manufacturers this year, although the bigger picture might tell a different story.

Out of the 155.5 million OLED panels destined for Galaxy smartphones in 2022, Samsung Display will supply 149 million. Reportedly, the other 6.5 million OLED panels will be shipped in from China's BEO (3.5 million) and CSOT (3 million) — via The Elec.

Last year, Samsung Electronics acquired 500,000 and 300,000 OLED panels from BOE and CSOT, respectively. However, last year, the company ordered fewer OLED smartphone panels for a total of 140.8 million units.

This year, Samsung Electronics needs 155.5 OLED screens, and the Display division will supply 149 million, up from 140 million in 2021.

As to where these new OLED panels from BOE and CSOT are going, the Galaxy A73 appears to be a prime candidate.

Samsung Display to ship more iPhone OLED panels to Apple in 2022

Market researchers predict that Apple will need 223 million OLED iPhone panels this year. As a result, Samsung Display could produce 137 million OLED iPhone panels in 2022, representing a 14% increase from 120 million in 2021.

Aside from Samsung Display, Apple will get 55 million OLED iPhone panels from LG Display and another 31 million units from BOE.

As far as the whole Apple iPhones display market is concerned, Samsung retains the largest share (61%), followed by LG (25%) and BOE (14%).
