TL;DR

  • Samsung posted a “Welcome to Foldables” video hours before Apple’s event, seemingly aimed at the iPhone maker’s rumored first foldable.
  • The video promotes Samsung’s 2026 foldables, especially the Galaxy Z Fold 8, which may be the closest rival to Apple’s expected foldable.
  • Rumors say Apple’s foldable could start around $2,000 and possibly include stylus support, while Samsung is already discounting some Fold 8 models in the U.S.

What significance does September 9 have for Samsung? Not a lot. But for its biggest rival, Apple, today is the day when the company is supposedly entering the foldable phone race once and for all.

With only a few hours to go before Apple's highly anticipated launch event, Samsung rolled out a new video welcoming everyone, not just Samsung fans, to foldables. Check it out below.

Of course, the video ends up promoting Samsung's own 2026 foldable phone lineup. Announced in July and released in August this year, the Galaxy Z Flip 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8, and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra are the three main devices the foldable iPhone will compete with this year.

Even more specifically, if the rumors are true and the first foldable iPhone has a wider aspect ratio, its direct competitor will be the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The Fold 8 is a phone countless people fell in love with and one that has already convinced many to try foldables for the first time in years. The stage is set. Apple just needs to step on it and reveal its own hand.

And yes, while Apple is only now joining the foldable market, apparently, Samsung has been at it for years. Its first foldable phone went on sale in 2019, and Samsung Display spent a few more years developing the foldable display technology before that.

But after all the hard work, Samsung is finally getting some competition and foldable display sales from Apple. The “Welcome to Foldables” video, or at least its title, sounds rather poetic after all these years of waiting for Apple to make a move.

Then again, Apple hasn't revealed much about its plans yet, and anything can happen by the end of the day. But if the first foldable iPhone is real, rumors call iPhone Duo and predict a $2,000 starting price. That would make it $100 pricier than the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

There's even a rumor that the iPhone Duo may have stylus support, which even Samsung fans are curious about. Samsung's Fold series used to support the S Pen until the Fold 7, and it would be quite odd for Apple to pick this idea up now.

Apple's launch was scheduled for September 9, 2026, at 10 AM PT. However, if you would rather buy a Samsung foldable now or after Apple's event, you can. You may even find the Fold 8/8 Ultra discounted at Samsung's online store in the USA.
