As smartphone prices continue to rise due to the ongoing memory chip shortage, Samsung has officially launched refurbished Galaxy smartphones in India. The company has been offering refurbished phones in other countries, including the US, for the past three years under its Certified Re-Newed (CRN) program. In South Korea, the CRN program was launched in 2025.
Samsung has announced the launch of its Certified Re-Newed program in India today. The program offers officially refurbished Galaxy smartphones with a standard one-year warranty from the date of purchase. It is a good option for buyers who want higher-end smartphones but cannot afford them at their regular retail prices.

However, there is one major issue right now. Samsung’s refurbished phones are priced similarly to brand-new units of the same Galaxy phones sold by retailers such as Amazon and Flipkart, India’s two largest online marketplaces. And chances are that offline stores and retail chains could offer those phones at even lower prices than Samsung's refurbished units.
As a result, the value proposition becomes weaker, since buyers can purchase new phones at nearly the same price as Samsung’s officially refurbished devices.
