The latest information by BusinessKorea shows that Samsung Display has managed to increase the production yield of its QD-OLED display to 85%. Choi Joo-sun, Samsung Display's Vice President, announced the company's results for the first half of 2022 and disclosed information about increased production yield to attendees.
The company also managed to increase the production of small and medium-sized panels by 10% compared to last year, which is an all-time high. After November 2021, the company managed to stabilize and increase the yield way faster than expected. As a result, Samsung Electronics (TV maker division), along with Sony and Dell, launched TVs and gaming monitors that use Samsung Display's QD-OLED panels.
A QD-OLED is a self-luminous display, like OLED, but it brings QLED's advantages such as a wider color gamut and higher brightness. Despite a dip in the smartphone market in the first half of this year, Samsung put a good fight in the market for small and medium-sized OLED panels, thanks to the growth of foldable phones.
Samsung Display is completely moving away from LCD panels. The company plans to exclusively manufacture QD-OLED panels for TVs and monitors and OLED panels for smartphones, smartwatches, tablets, and laptops.
