Since 2024, India’s Vodafone Idea (Vi) has been working with Samsung to launch 5G services in various parts of the country. So far, it has used the South Korean tech giant’s 5G cellular network equipment to offer the service in Bihar’s Patna, Punjab’s Chandigarh, and Karnataka’s Bengaluru.
Now, Vi has announced that it will use Samsung’s technology to offer 5G services in 23 more Indian cities soon: Ahmedabad, Agra, Aurangabad, Kozhikode, Cochin, Dehradun, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Madurai, Malappuram, Meerut, Nagpur, Nashik, Pune, Rajkot, Sonepat, Surat, Siliguri, Trivandrum, Vadodara, and Vizag.
According to the cellular network operator, it is using AI-powered Self-Organising Networks (SON) to enhance performance and energy efficiency. Along with Samsung, Vi is also working with Nokia and Ericsson to “enable seamless integration of Vi’s advanced 4G and 5G infrastructure, reinforcing its focus on sustainability.”
Commenting on the milestone, Vi’s Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Jagbir Singh, said: “Our 5G rollout is progressing steadily in a phased manner, and we’re excited to bring next-gen connectivity to more users. At the same time, we’re strengthening our 4G network to ensure a seamless experience for our users. With enhanced indoor coverage, increased capacity, and 84% population coverage with its 4G network, we remain focused on delivering superior digital experiences to Vi users.”
