TL;DR

  • Samsung Electronics Singapore is partnering with Reality Defender to build on-device deepfake detection tools.
  • The first rollout is aimed at enterprise users in Singapore, not consumers, and will work on Galaxy devices before data reaches the cloud.
  • Samsung cites rising AI fraud in Singapore, including widespread audio and video deepfake scams and large financial losses.

Industry critics argue that AI companies aren't doing enough to avoid muddying the waters between human-made and AI-generated content. Consumers and enterprises alike are exposed to an increasing number of deepfakes.

To combat fake content, Samsung Electronics Singapore has partnered with New York-based AI detection company Reality Defender. Together they'll develop and deploy on-device deepfake detection solutions.

Not a consumer product

Samsung's initiative sounds promising, but before you get too excited, none of this is likely to affect your Galaxy phone experience directly.

The reason is that Samsung and Reality Defender are working on deepfake detection solutions for enterprises in Singapore.

The goal is to avoid AI fraud by helping organizations identify threats, such as AI-generated voice, video, and images, directly on their Galaxy devices before any data even reaches the cloud. Reality Defender is working alongside the Samsung Knox team to develop tools that will empower enterprise users to spot AI-generated content before they act on it.

No other technical details were revealed, and only time will tell if Samsung will develop similar on-device AI deepfake detection solutions for consumer Galaxy phones and tablets. On the enterprise side, these solutions will be deployed on the Galaxy S26 series and later models, as well as the latest Galaxy Tabs.

Citing a 2024 survey, Samsung says 56% of businesses in Singapore have been exposed to AI-generated audio fraud attempts, while 52% have had to deal with video deepfakes. In 2025, AI scam victims in Singapore lost roughly S$242 million ($188 million).
