One UI 8 will arrive much sooner than One UI 7, with the beta program possibly launching later this month. One likely reason for the faster release is that the list of One UI 8 features isn't exactly long. In fact, early One UI 8 builds we've tested over the past few weeks are so barebones that we wouldn't mind if Samsung decided to skip straight to One UI 9.
Still, as development continues on One UI 8 (Android 16), Samsung is gradually introducing new functionality, even if the additions are relatively minor. The company has also enhanced two existing features that debuted with the Galaxy S25 series.
The Galaxy S25 series were the first Samsung smartphones to support video recording in the log format, which captures videos with a wider dynamic range and details that have to be altered in post production for the best results. Log (logarithmic) recording works in both the regular and Pro video modes, but on One UI 7, the feature is confined to the rear cameras.
With One UI 8, Samsung has enabled log video recording for the front camera as well. However, it's possible Galaxy S25, S25+, and S25 Ultra users will get front camera log video through a standard software update before One UI 8. That's because the Galaxy S25 Edge appears to support log recording on all cameras despite running One UI 7.
The other Galaxy S25 feature that Samsung has improved is Now Brief. Now Brief, as you may know, provides AI-powered summaries covering weather, calendar events, health data, traffic updates, news, and more by learning your usage patterns and behavior. On One UI 8, Samsung has added the option to have those summaries read out to you.
You can have the summaries read out by tapping the text-to-speech button in the Now Brief app's top right corner. You can see it in action in the video below.
With One UI 8, Samsung will introduce log video recording and Now Brief to older devices, including the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Galaxy Z Flip 6. The Galaxy S24 lineup already supports the former, so it will simply gain log recording for the front camera.
According to Google, the stable version of One UI 8 will roll out to eligible Galaxy devices this summer, and as mentioned earlier, Samsung could let users test the update in beta this month.
