After making us wait for weeks for information about One UI 6.1 for older devices following the launch of the Galaxy S24 series, Samsung finally announced that the rollout of the One UI 6.1 update for some devices would start in March.
Samsung said recently that the update will come out sometime in the final 15 days of the month, but almost three weeks in, One UI 6.1 still hasn't been released for any eligible device. And the company may be cutting it extremely close, at least in some markets.
Samsung Vietnam has reportedly revealed that the Galaxy S23 series will get One UI 6.1 from March 28. We're assuming that date is for Vietnam, not when the update will hit the air globally, and some markets may receive it a little earlier.
Still, with how long it has already been since One UI 6.1 made its debut, we're getting more and more skeptical about Samsung's ability to make One UI 6.1 available widely before April.
It's particularly concerning for devices that aren't flagships launched in 2023. The initial wave is supposed to target only the Galaxy S23 series (including the S23 FE), Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9, so owners of other eligible smartphones and tablets may potentially be waiting until May or even June before they can take advantage of the latest Samsung software.
That said, since only the 2023 flagships are going to get the Galaxy S24's AI features, One UI 6.1 for other devices may come out a lot quicker once the rollout gets underway. But if it takes too long, Samsung may want to skip version One UI 6.1 for some devices and update them directly to One UI 7.0 later in the year.
For now, it's best to keep your expectations low and be prepared for the possibility of One UI 6.1 not arriving on your phone or tablet this month.
