One UI 6.1 update: Will your Galaxy phone get it?

    Firmware

    Last updated: February 13th, 2024 at 18:33 UTC+01:00

The Galaxy S24 series was officially announced in mid-January with One UI 6.1 onboard, and Samsung will be spending the first half of 2024 working on and bringing One UI 6.1 to older Galaxy devices.

A lot of Galaxy phones were eligible for Android 14 and One UI 6.0 and pretty much all of them have received that major update, but what about the One UI 6.1 update? Which Samsung phones and tablets will get it and which devices won't?

If your Galaxy phone is eligible for Android 14, expect to get One UI 6.1

As of February 13, Samsung hasn't released One UI 6.1 for any device launched before the Galaxy S24 series, so it will be a while before we get an official list of eligible devices. But if history is any guide, almost every Galaxy phone or tablet that got Android 14 and One UI 6.0 will also be eligible for One UI 6.1.

Samsung may skip bringing One UI 6.1 to some budget devices, but in general, even if Android 14 is the last major OS upgrade for your device, expect to get One UI 6.1 as the final One UI update.

Below you can find a list of the phones and tablets that are likely to get One UI 6.1.

Samsung Galaxy devices eligible for One UI 6.1 update

    Galaxy S series

    Galaxy Z series

    Galaxy A series

    Galaxy M series

    Galaxy F series

    Galaxy Xcover series

    Galaxy Tab series

Keep in mind that the list above is tentative and could change in the future. We will keep updating it as more information comes to light, so be sure to bookmark this page so you can check back later.

What's new in One UI 6.1?

One UI 6.1 brings some interesting new features despite being a minor One UI update, such as the option to show the lock screen wallpaper on Always On Display, a combined Quick Share and Nearby Share menu for easier file sharing with Samsung and non-Samsung devices, and more advanced battery protection features.

But the highlights are all the Galaxy AI features, such as auto summarization of texts, websites, and voice recordings, Circle to Search for instant context-aware Google searches by long pressing the home button, advanced photo editing tools such as moving or deleting objects from photos, live translation in phone calls, powerful grammer and spelling checks in messages, writing style assist for chat messages, generative wallpapers, and more.

One UI 6.1's AI features will be limited to a handful of devices

Samsung has revealed that some of One UI 6.1's features will be limited to a handful of devices. The AI features are only expected to be released for flagship phones and tablets launched in 2023, and features like wallpaper support on Always On Display will remain exclusive to the Galaxy S24 lineup.

When will the One UI 6.1 update be released?

One UI 6.1 will take a little longer than these updates generally do to arrive on compatible devices. Samsung is aiming for a release in the first half of 2024, which is as vague as it gets, so it could take a while, especially for devices launched before 2023.

Will you be able to test One UI 6.1 before its official rollout?

Samsung holds a beta program each year for major new Android and One UI upgrades but rarely does it for minor One UI updates. However, Samsung allowed some users to test One UI 5.1.1 before its official release even though version 5.1.1 was mostly limited to the company's foldable phones and tablets, so we can't completely rule out the possibility of getting a One UI 6.1 beta program.

Bring back Notification Categories on Galaxy S24 and One UI 6.1

Even though One UI 6.1 is more than a decent update containing numerous beneficial extra features, a few things that have changed in One UI 6.1 are questionable. One odd decision Samsung made for the new update was to turn off Notification Categories, which makes managing notifications more annoying and not nearly as easy and […]

Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 5 remains the most premium foldable phone on the market. It may lack the kind of Galaxy AI features the Galaxy S24 has until the One UI 6.1 update arrives, but it's still one of the two best choices you can make in terms of foldable mobile tech (the other choice […]
