Samsung Display, a leader in OLED technology, has showcased its latest display innovations at the ongoing Society for Information Display (SID 2026) expo. Among them is a new smartphone OLED panel that delivers extremely high brightness while maintaining a very wide color gamut.

Samsung’s Flex Chroma Pixel OLED panel achieves 96% BT.2020 coverage

Typically, OLED panels lose color accuracy at peak brightness levels. However, Samsung Display’s Flex Chroma Pixel OLED panel is claimed to cover up to 96 percent of the BT.2020 color space while reaching brightness levels of up to 3,000 nits in High Brightness Mode (HBM). It also incorporates Samsung Display's LEAD technology, which offers high-brightness while consuming lower-power with the help of the polarizer-free OLED structure.

To achieve this, Samsung Display has developed a new emissive material called Phosphorescent Sensitized Fluorescence (PSF). This material improves color purity and reproduction and could be used in future smartphones. It is possible that Samsung will bring this technology to upcoming Galaxy S and Galaxy Z series devices.

The BT.2020 color space, developed by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is used for broadcasting 4K and HDR content. It offers one of the widest color gamuts among commonly used standards and is about 1.7 times broader than the DCI-P3 color space.

A company official explained, “Some recent products in the industry have increased color purity while lowering brightness in order to meet the BT.2020 standard. Flex Chroma Pixel secures long lifetime, high brightness, and wide color gamut characteristics by optimizing both material performance and optical structure based on our LEAD technology.
