My FanCam is a Galaxy AI video-editing feature in Samsung Gallery that creates a new clip focused on a person you choose. It follows that person through an existing recording, adjusting the framing as they move.
You can choose the shape of the resulting video, review it, and save a separate copy. It’s useful when you’ve recorded several people but want a version that focuses on one of them.
A concert recording could become a clip following one performer, for example, or a video of a school performance could focus on your child. You can also turn a horizontal recording into a vertical clip for sharing without manually adjusting the crop throughout the video.
My FanCam analyzes the recording for people and lets you select someone from the detected choices. It then crops the video and adjusts that crop to follow the selected person. Before processing, the interface shows the proposed framing, with the area outside it darkened.
The difference from an ordinary crop is that the framing can move. A fixed crop might leave someone partly outside the picture when they walk to one side.
My FanCam follows their movement instead, although its tracking isn’t guaranteed to get every moment right. Samsung notes that clothing, poses, and the person’s size in the frame can affect the result.
This is different from Auto framing in the Camera app. Auto framing adjusts the view before and during filming, while My FanCam works on a video after it has been recorded. You don’t need to use Auto framing — or enable anything else in Camera — to use My FanCam later.
My FanCam is available on Galaxy S, Galaxy Z, and Galaxy Tab S smartphones and tablets launched in 2024 and later, running One UI 9 (Android 17) and up.
Yes. My FanCam works with videos you’ve already recorded, including videos imported from another device. It isn’t restricted to footage captured on the phone you’re using to edit. A video someone sends you can therefore be used just like one you recorded yourself.
There is no special My FanCam recording mode to enable beforehand. You open the video in Samsung Gallery and access the feature from the Galaxy AI tools.
My FanCam also accepts 8K, APV, and Log recordings captured on devices that support shooting in those formats. That describes the recordings it can work with, however, not a guarantee that the saved copy retains the original resolution or recording format.
Yes. You can choose the output’s aspect ratio and switch between portrait and landscape, regardless of how the original video was recorded.
A horizontal recording can become a vertical clip, while a portrait recording can produce a horizontal crop. The feature changes which part of the scene is included rather than simply turning the video sideways.
The available ratios are 1:1, 3:4, 9:16, 2:3, 3:5, 4:5, and 5:7. Selecting landscape reverses the non-square ratios, so 3:4 becomes 4:3 and 9:16 becomes 16:9. A square 1:1 crop stays square.
For example, you could choose 9:16 to make a vertical version of a concert recording, or 1:1 for a square clip. The crop preview lets you see how much of the surrounding scene will remain before you start processing.
Pinch-to-zoom isn’t available in My FanCam. You can choose the aspect ratio and orientation, but you can’t pinch the preview to make the selected person appear larger.
My FanCam is accessed through the Galaxy AI icon in Samsung Gallery, rather than through the Camera app. The process includes a preview stage, so you can check the tracking before saving anything.

Creating My FanCam videos
Follow and Save copy are separate actions. The first generates the reframed preview; the second saves it as a video in Gallery.
My FanCam works without an internet connection, but a Samsung account sign-in is required to start using Galaxy AI features the first time, including My FanCam.
You can process a video saved on the device without Wi-Fi or mobile data; the account requirement is separate from the need for an active connection.
No. My FanCam saves a separate copy and leaves the original video unchanged. The saved copy also retains the original audio, so reframing a concert or conversation doesn’t turn it into a silent clip.
What it doesn’t save is an editable My FanCam project or a history of your tracking choices. Once you’ve saved the result, you can’t reopen that editing session and simply change the selected person or restore the earlier framing.
To make a different version, return to the original video and use My FanCam again. You can also apply My FanCam to a saved copy, but that starts a new operation on an already-cropped video. It doesn’t reopen the previous edit or bring back parts of the original scene that were cropped out.
The saved video’s dimensions depend on the original recording and the aspect ratio you choose. For a 4K landscape video, every portrait aspect ratio keeps the original video’s 2160-pixel height, while the width changed to match the selected ratio.
The square 1:1 option produces a 2160 × 2160 video. For a Full HD video, every portrait aspect ratio will keep the 1080-pixel height while changing the width.
No. My FanCam changes the framing around the person you select; it doesn’t erase other people or remove the background. Someone standing beside the selected person can still appear if they fall within the crop.
This is worth keeping in mind when choosing the output shape. A different aspect ratio may include less of the surrounding scene, but it doesn’t turn My FanCam into an object-removal tool. Following one person and showing only that person are not necessarily the same result.
My FanCam needs to detect a person it can track. Samsung states that the feature isn’t supported when there is no subject to follow, and tracking accuracy is not guaranteed.
Clothing, poses, and subject size can also affect tracking. Selecting someone at the beginning therefore doesn’t guarantee that the crop will follow them correctly throughout the recording.
The preview is useful here: watch the reframed clip before saving it, especially during moments when the person moves around. My FanCam can save you the work of manually following someone through a video, but it’s still worth checking that the result shows what you intended.
